Reiki, pronounced ray-key, is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reiki is administered by “laying on hands” or placing hands lightly on or over the body to facilitate the process of healing. The Rei in Reiki is related to the spiritual realm and is spiritual wisdom. Rei is another word for spiritual consciousness, the Universal mind, God, the Supreme Being, or the Holy Spirit. The Ki in Reiki is life energy that all living things have circulating through and surrounding it and departs when the physical body dies. Ki is related to what is called the biofield energy in science.
Reiki is not a religion but is spiritual in nature. Reiki is healing energy that comes from God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, Higher Power, or spiritual consciousness and knows where to go to heal rather than being directed by the practitioner. Reiki can never cause harm and never depletes the life energy or biofield energy. Reiki is a channeled healing energy, is not a part of the practitioner’s energy, and flows without having to enter an altered state. Reiki considers everyone in need of healing because of the human conditions we live in. Reiki can increase energy and loving feelings of well-being for oneself and others.
In my lineage of practice, we call on the healing power of God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, and other necessary angels to assist with the healing process. The power of spiritual healing is discussed in the Bible and other religious/spiritual books. There are many Bible verses that illustrates examples of healing by laying on of hands, verbal/intentional declarations, and other verbal/behavioral actions. More information can be learned about Reiki and the relationships in the Bible from the following website:
Reiki cannot guarantee to prevent, treat, or cure cancer or any other disease and is not a substitute for other medical or psychological treatments. Researchers are now studying Reiki scientifically. Several studies are validating the effectiveness of Reiki. Doctors, nurses, and other licensed health care providers have found Reiki to be effective in reducing side effects of radiation and drugs, reduces the need for pain medications, reduces emotional distress and stress, improves sleep and appetite, quickens the healing process, reduces hospital time, and other positive effects. A Reiki session involves laying on a massage table fully clothed and the practitioner placing their hands lightly on or several inches over the head, torso, knees, and feet. Some may feel a tingling, heat, or energy, or nothing at all. Others may feel a sense of peace and calm in their mind or physically. These feelings can be different for everyone. However, a sense of deep relaxation is almost always felt.
