What is Online Counseling?
Telebehavioral health is sometimes called online therapy, e-counseling, e-psychotherapy, and mobile or online counseling. Telebehavioral health counseling uses electronic communications or information technologies via online video-conferencing through software that is HIPAA compliant and encrypted for your privacy and confidentiality. Telebehavioral health is the use of video and audio technologies to support long-distance services between providers and their clients.
Who is not a good fit for online counseling?
Individuals with severe personality disorders, serious mental illness, sex offenders, and under the influence of drugs and alcohol during online counseling are not a good fit for online counseling services. This also includes individuals with active paranoid/delusions or unmanaged schizophrenia symptoms; these individuals require a facility that can prescribe medications and provide medication monitoring. Individuals that are suicidal or homicidal with an intent at time of service are not appropriate for online counseling. An in-person mental health facility with an integrative approach is a much more effective and appropriate service than online counseling or in-person counseling.
